A first field of research lies on technical change which has been analysed, through the use of patents as proxy, by focusing on innovative capacity and the evolution of intellectual property institution. A second field of research has dealt with human capital as main factor of Italian economic development. In the field of business history, my attention has been paid on single firm and particularly on the structure of Italian capitalistic system (ownership structure, sectoral analysis, relationship between banks and firms,\u00a0 performance, entrepreneurship). In this field, I run, since many years,\u00a0a large data set <a style=\"color: #000000\">IMITA.db<\/a> contains information on balance sheet (about 200.000) and on board of directors (about 300.000 directors) of Italian companies (1900-1982).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docenti-deps.unisi.it\/michelangelovasta\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/08\/arginino_reduced2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-429\" src=\"https:\/\/docenti-deps.unisi.it\/michelangelovasta\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/08\/arginino_reduced2.jpg\" alt=\"arginino_reduced2\" width=\"290\" height=\"23\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">My fields of research are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">the role of science and technology in the long run economic growth processes;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">dynamics of Italian trade in the long run perspective;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">effects of legislation on Italian capitalism in the long run;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">entrepreneurship as a factor of Italian economic development;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">governance system in Italian\u00a0corporate network;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">well being and regional divide.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">My ongoing projects\u00a0are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the history of Economic history (a bibliometric approach)<\/li>\n<li>wages and skills in the Italian economy<\/li>\n<li>Italian innovative capabilities in the long-run perspectives;<\/li>\n<li>impact of legislation on Italian capitalism in the long run;<\/li>\n<li>dynamics of Italian foreign trade in the long run;<\/li>\n<li>determinants of entrepreneurship in historical perspective;<\/li>\n<li>well being and regional divide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docenti-deps.unisi.it\/michelangelovasta\/research-and-wp\/working-paper\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">My working paper<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docenti-deps.unisi.it\/michelangelovasta\/research-and-wp\/data\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">My data projects<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most of my research activity has dealt with Economic and business history focusing mainly on Italian economic development since Unification (1861).
